Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools has named a new interim chief financial officer after the preview interim had her contract expire.
The new interim CFO is Angela Clark, who serves as the district’s director of accounting and has been in the central office since 2016. Clark joined the school system in 2009 after holding accounting positions at General Electric, Rowe Furniture and Metal Works of High Point. Before joining the central office, Clark worked with Union Cross Elementary School.
Clark has a bachelor of science in finance and insurance and a master’s degree in business administration from Appalachian State University.
She takes over for Freida Lashmit, who had been in the role since May of this year. Lashmit herself took over as interim after the resignation of former CFO Thomas Kranz, who tendered his resignation before the news of the $42 million deficit the district faces became public.
At the time of Lashmit’s appointment, the district stated that the appointment was only through June 30, which marks the end of the fiscal year.
Clark began in the role on July 1.
The district also announced that Samantha Fitzgerald, previously the assistant principal at Lewisville Elementary School, would be taking over as principal of Sherwood Forest Elementary School.
Fitzgerald has been a part of the Lewisville Elementary administration since 2016. Before that, she started her career in education as a teacher in Guilford County Schools in 2008. She joined WS/FCS in 2013 as a teacher at Middle Fork Elementary School. She was the WS/FCS PBIS coordinator from 2014 to 2016 before joining Lewisville Elementary, where she was honored as the Assistant Principal of the Year for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools in 2019.
She earned a bachelor of arts in psychology along with her teaching license from Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia, and a master of arts in executive leadership studies from Gardner-Webb University.
Fitzgerald replaces Jacob Lowther, who is moving to Meadowlark Middle School as principal. She begins her new role on July 1.
