Spring is here and the Bermuda Run Garden Club has sprung into action. Locals have probably seen the club out in the community and have likely participated in two of the most visible and popular events.

On Saturday, April 12, the semi-annual shredding event took place in front of the town of Bermuda Run town offices. The morning was very chilly and extremely windy, but that didn’t stop the veteran crew of garden club members, led by Marie Labarowski.

Beginning at 9 a.m. a steady stream of participants queued the parking lot, trading bags of paper for a small fee. Many times, the fee was accompanied by an additional donation. After settling up with the Shred-It company, all proceeds go to fund garden club projects in Davie County and beyond. Those projects were listed on a paper given with each donation.

To those who supported this event, the club expressed a big and sincere thank you.

On the following Tuesday, April 15, the annual geranium sale took place. Co-chairs of this event were Amy Bridges, Holly Loke and Karen Cohn.

The lower parking lot of Bermuda Run Country Club was peppered with red, coral, violet, pink and white plants from Mitchell’s Nursery and Greenhouse in King.

Several garden club members recruited their spouses and arrived early to meet and unload the truck full of flowers. The plants were then sorted into sections according to size and color. Soon the cars began streaming in to pick up the pre-ordered flowers.

Garden club members are flower lovers with a passion to share the joy plants can bring. Members were truly in their “happy place” as they filled trunks, trucks and back seats and watched as these beautiful geraniums went home with fellow nature-lovers.

Again, the club extended another big thank you to everyone who supported this event.
