As April comes to a close, the Titans are gearing up for the final month of the school year. Along with May comes many events and requirements for students to successfully wrap up the year, often making it one of the Titans’ busiest months. Due to this school year’s calendar changes, the month of May is more packed than ever, but there are important things to remember to stay motivated when en route to summer vacation.
Maintain effort
Although summer break is on the horizon and there is less than a month until the 3:40 p.m. bell rings for the final time this year, it is crucial to stay motivated and exert the same amount of effort in your schoolwork that you have been putting out all year.
In order to finish the year strongly, students must not give up on all of their hard work and their well-earned grades, but should continue to grow their GPAs and keep learning until the last day of coursework is given. Especially for those who are graduating, senioritis can be a slippery slope, causing students to coast through the end of the year and face the risk of falling grades or potential colleges rescinding their offers.
However, regardless of the grade level, students should make an effort to keep studying and staying attentive in class despite the countdown until summer vacation being the talk of the town.
Savor every moment
In these final days of class, it’s also important to recognize that high school is only a small portion of your life and that you should enjoy every moment as much as possible.
Even when doing homework or learning a new, confusing subject, take a minute to reflect on how far you’ve gotten and what a privilege it is to learn every day. Thinking of high school as an opportunity to grow your mind while trying new things and meeting new people is a helpful way to appreciate your time on campus, making it easier to finish the year strongly.
Savor every moment that you spend walking to class with friends, talking with your favorite teacher or enjoying lunch with your peers as these moments will later become the nostalgic memories that you look back on. Once you begin to appreciate these little aspects of your high school experience, it becomes much easier to get through each day with a positive, motivated attitude.
Stay involved
One of the most important things one can do in high school is to become involved with extracurricular activities around campus, and that should continue until the very end of the year as well. Extracurriculars such as clubs or sports are more than just a group you’re a part of, but they are outlets for creativity and community building that are integral on campus.
Even as the year ends, it is crucial to show up for your peers and support them in their games, club events and theater productions as there is much hard work going on behind the scenes. Being in an extracurricular activity is one of the best ways to meet friends and learn new hobbies or skills, as like-minded people get together to have discussions and try new things. Staying involved until the very end of the school year allows students to stay connected to their campus and gives them another reason to stay motivated until the final day of school.
The last month of school is without a doubt a very high stakes time of the year, but when remembering to take a breath and enjoy the people and environment around you, it becomes easier to power through each day. The Titans have had a year of success and are going to continue that all the way until the end of May, staying involved and putting their best effort into their classwork until summer vacation arrives.
