LEWISVILLE — The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and Winston Salem/Forsyth County Schools security team investigated graffiti with “concerning language” at Lewisville Middle School over the past week and determined that there is no credible threat to the school.
The investigation was initiated after school staff found graffiti in a stall of a girl’s restroom, according to WS/FCS Chief Communications Officer Amanda Lehmert. FCSO and WS/FCS security officials were then contacted and began to investigate the graffiti and any potential threat.
According to a release from Lehmert, the investigation included interviews with students and home visits by law enforcement, but no student or parents were able to provide direct knowledge of an individual making a threat of writing the graffiti.
Lehmert wrote that “out of an abundance of caution,” the school requested FCSO conduct a search of the building on three separate occasions for firearms or explosives, with the school also using metal detectors on Friday morning. No threatening items were found.
Both the FCSO and the WS/FCS team have determined that there is no credible threat to school officials or students, according to Lehmert.
“The safety of our students is our top priority. Every threat is taken seriously and investigated to the fullest. We ask our students and families to follow our best practices for reporting issues of concern: talk directly to a trusted school leader or law enforcement officer, or use our Say Something anonymous reporting app. Never share unverified information online or with others,” wrote Lehmert.
