West Forsyth’s Childs adds to her awards with all-conference in girls pole vault; Gobble named girls wrestling Coach of the Year

High school basketball playoffs are still being played in the NCHSAA across North Carolina, but the Central Piedmont 4-A recently released all-conference honors for winter sports. 

Of those honors, each sport is represented by West Forsyth athletes, but no athlete had the success that Noelle Childs had. She was co-champion of the girls pole-vault championship at the NCHSAA Class 4-A Indoor Track-and-Field championships last month in Winston-Salem. 

Childs co-won the pole-vault state championship with sophomore Tessa Kranick of Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons with a best vault of 11 feet. 

Childs, who shared all-conference in girls pole vault with Rachel Riley of Mount Tabor, was the only West Forsyth athlete who won a state championship, but Coach Alex Gobble of the West Forsyth girls wrestling team was named the girls wrestling Coach of the Year after helping guide the team to an overall record of 10-0 and 7-0 in the Central Piedmont 4-A.

Freshman Laila Jones of West Forsyth was named all-conference in both girls basketball and shot put in girls indoor track-and-field. Jones shared all-conference in shot put with Mount Tabor’s Shaymiah Bailey, who also plays basketball and was named girls basketball Defensive Player of the Year.  

Katherine Perdue of the West Forsyth girls swimming team was named all-conference in two different events – the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard backstroke. Bailey shared all-conference in the 100 fly with Ava Kiser from Reynolds and in the girls 100 back with Camden Robertson, also from Reynolds.

Shamarius “Snook” Peterkin of Mount Tabor was named the conference’s boys basketball Player of the Year, and Andy Muse of Mount Tabor was named Coach of the Year. However, Kamauri Manuel of West Forsyth was named the boys Defensive Player of the Year.

Other than Manuel, Jacari Brim, Jordan Tate and Princeton Scott of West Forsyth were also named all-conference. In addition to Peterkin and Muse, Will Koonin and Amare Robinson from Mount Tabor were also named all-conference. Other boys who made all-conference were Jai Richburg and Dom Tshboyi from East Forsyth, Jackson Powers and Bryson Mickey of Davie County, Jayden McCrae from Reagan, Grant Burns and Andreas Kazakos from Reynolds, and Brock Jackson from Parkland.

In girls basketball, other than Jones, Emma Staples and Brooklynn King of West Forsyth were named all-conference.

Davie County, which won the girls basketball regular-season conference championship, was led by Avarie Martin, who was named girls Player of the Year, and Lindsey Adams, who was named girls Coach of the Year. In addition to Martin and Adams, Gracie Shore and Bailey Aderhold of Davie County were named all-conference.  

Shaymiah Bailey of Mount Tabor was named the girls basketball Defensive Player of the Year.  

Other teams that were represented in girls basketball all-conference were Mya Booth, Rajanae Bethea and Alyssa Jessup from East Forsyth; Grace Galyon and Kayla George from Reagan; and Jordan Fisher, Kimora Brooks and Asia Blackwell from Parkland. 

In girls indoor track and field, the West Forsyth girls 3200-meter relay team of Lily Baugh, Dempsey Baldini, Tatum Snow and Celia Tonindandel were named all-conference in addition to the team of Lily Hayes, Meghan Eidelman, Sarah Fassinger and Kate Henderson from Reagan. Hope Newsome of West Forsyth shared all-conference in the girls long jump with Parkland’s Londyn Green-Dubose. Green-Dubose was named girls indoor track-and-field’s Athlete of the Year.  

In addition to Green-Dubose, Parkland’s Saniya Hall was named the girls Most Valuable Sprinter of the Year. Riley was named girls Distance Runner of the Year after sharing honors in the girls 1000 with Henderson from Reagan, and in the girls 1600 with Paige Askew from Reagan. Richard Burton of Reagan was named girls indoor track-and-field Coach of the Year.   

Hall from Parkland and Carmella Marino from Reagan were named girls all-conference in the 300, and Marino and Zyere Norwood from Mount Tabor were named all-conference in the girls 55-meter dash. Hall and Fassinger were named all-conference in the girls 500. Henderson and teammate Charlotte Miller from Reagan were named all-conference in the girls 3200. 

In the girls 55 hurdles, Parkland’s Mikayla Thomas and Jaziya Odom were named all-conference. In the girls 4×200 relay, it was Reagan’s Marino, Bailey Huff, Marley Ingram and Delilah Caldwell and Parkland’s Trinity West, Hall, Kristina Reid and Nyessa West. In the 4×400 relay, it was Reagan’s Henderson, Fassinger, Huff and Marino as well as Parkland’s Trinity West, Hall, Reid and Nyessa West.  

In girls field events it was Reagan’s Ashley Casas and Gigi Simon in the high jump, and Green-Dubose from Parkland and Jakayla Jackson from Reagan in the triple jump. 

In boys indoor track and field from West Forsyth, Aydin Davis was the only athlete who received all-conference honors after sharing the 300-meter run with Parkland’s Micah Walker.  

Burton was also named Coach of the Year. Also from Reagan, Djibri Fall was named boys track Athlete of the Year and Tate Shore was named boys Distance Runner of the Year. Rance Springs from Mount Tabor was named boys Sprinter of the Year.  

Walker and Ezra Blair won in the boys 55, as well as Springs and Parkland’s Kobe Mack in the 55 hurdles, Blair and Springs in the 500, Shore and Reynolds’ Colin Ehrman in the 1000, Shore and Reynolds’ Cedar Nichols-Barnhart in the 1600 and Nichols-Barnhart and Davie County’s Thomas Essic in the 3200.

In the boys relays it was Reagan’s Antonio Kelly, Jerry Summers, Elijah Davis and Chey Johnson, and Parkland’s Mack, Micah Walker, Xavier Covington and Jaylin Bacote in the 4×200. In the 4×400 it was Mount Tabor’s Springs, Blair, Luke Mistor and Jemareon Miller and Parkland’s Isaiah Parker, Walker, Bacote, and Carlson. Greene. In the boys 4×800, it was Mount Tabor’s Mistor, Charles Rankin, Whit Longhurst and Ashton Park as well as Reagan’s Yair Alonzo, Alexandros Votanopoulos, Prakash Keeley and Scotty Howerton.  

In boys field events, it was Cooper Williams and Justin Johnson from Mount Tabor in the shot put; Patrick Phillips and Victor Peral from Mount Tabor in the high jump; Reagan’s Henry Johnson, Mack and Fall in the long jump; and Fall and Mount Tabor’s Josiah Felton in the triple jump. 

In boys swimming and diving, West Forsyth had two athletes make all-conference. Carter Patterson shared all-conference with Reagan’s Logan Truskowski in the boys 100-yard freestyle, and Tyler Veres of West Forsyth received all-conference honors in the 1-meter diving.  

In girls swimming events, Reynolds’ Camden Robertson was named girls Swimmer of the Year, and shared all-conference in the 200 free with Reagan’s Eva Beekman.  

Also winning honors in girls swimming were Reynolds’ Kiser and Reagan’s Claire Farrell in the 200 individual medley, Katie Krieger from Mount Tabor and Skyler Zuleger from Davie County in the 50 free, Claire Isaac and Addison Mitchell from Reagan in the 100 free, Beekman and Krieger in the 500 free, Zuleger and Abigail Burton from Reagan in the 100 breastroke. 

In girls relays, Reynolds’ Robertson, Sage Howards, Kiser, and Keegan Brown and Reagan’s Farrell, Burton, Peyton Clifford, and Mary Moore in the 200 medley relay. In the 200 free relay it was Mount Tabor’s Natalie Dinkins, Riley Petronzio, Isaac, and Krieger as well as Reagan’s Burton, Josie Hoopingarner, Moore, and Mitchell. In the 400 free relay it was Reynolds’s Robertson, Brown, Melynn Holmes, and Kiser as well as Reagan’s Beekman, Addison Drenan, Taylor Hinshaw, and Mitchell.  

In girls 1-meter diving, Reagan’s Michelle Ward and Mount Tabor’s Emi Kishida shared honors. 

Ryan Michel from Reagan was named boys and girls Coach of the Year.  

In boys swimming events, Carter Patterson was the only boys swimmer from West Forsyth to be named all-conference. Patterson and Logan Truskowski shared honors in the boys 100 free.  

Reagan’s Bence and Tyler Burton were named boys Swimmers of the Year.  

In boys swimming, being named to all-conference were Zach Hirata from Davie County and Jackson Hartsough in the 200 free, Bence Burton and Grant Turner from Reagan in the 200 individual medley, Max Mahler from Mount Tabor and Reagan’s JT Trowbridge in the 50 free, Tyler Burton and Mahler in the 100 fly, and Cooper Smits from Mount Tabor and Hugh Harris from Reagan in the 500 free.  

Also in boys swimming, Bence Burton and Hirata in the 100 back, and Tyler Burton and Truskowski in the 100 breast. 

In boys swimming relays, Reagan’s Bence Burton, Turner, Tyler Burton and JT Trowbridge as well as Mount Tabor’s Smits, Hartsough, Mahler and Wyatt Sidden shared honors in the 200 medley relay. In the 200 free relay it was Reagan’s Truskowski, Turner, Zach Foeri and Trowbridge as well as Mount Tabor’s Mahler, Ben Grimstead, Maddox Pirkle and Hartsough. In the 400 free relay it was Reagan’s Gray Raney, Truskowski, Tyler Burton and Bence Burton,as well as Mount Tabor’s Smits, Pirkle, Grimstead and Siden. 

In boys wrestling, West Forsyth, with the return of Coach Jason Hooker, had seven wrestlers make all-conference in Beau Hooker, Lucas Nolette, Ahmadou Diop, Brennan Wallace, Elias Marquez and Anthony Zahn.

Glenn’s boys wrestling dominated the awards. Larry Barron was named Coach of the Year, Yusel Aguilar was named Lower-Weight (106-145) Wrestler of the Year and Misael Rivera was named Upper-Weight (152-285) Wrestler of the Year. In addition, from Glenn, making all-conference were Alex Colon-Perez, Diego Colon-Perez, Makaleb Butler, Brady Robinson, and Alex Lopez. 

Davie County, which won the individual points state wrestling championship, had a full group of athletes make boys all-conference – Graylan Anderson, Cayden Glass, Tiaj Thao, Jamarious Pelote, Ryder Strickland, Elliott Gould, Max McCall and Maddox Creason.

Other boys wrestlers who made all-conference were Jaden Whacha from East Forsyth; Reagan’s Max Muse, Kade Hennessey, Jnoua Dechavez and Fabian Marin; and Reynolds’ Henry Halsey, Andrew Runion, Dontre Blackmon, Jayden Willis and Isaac Lloyd. 

In girls wrestling, West Forsyth had 11 wrestlers make all-conference in Addison Kmen, Ariana Merlos-Bueno, Victoria Pioquinto, Shelly Hooker, Claire Swain, Jadyn Magallanes, Elienai Munoz-Martinex, Hailey Jacinto, Bella Almanza, Kryssi Walls, and Allisa Neal.

Taylor Williams from East Forsyth was named girls Wrestler of the Year.  

Davie County’s Kierra Hinson and LillyAnne Simmons; East Forsyth’s Piera Sherrell, Glenn’s Milly Rivera, Zaiyana Bell-Mosley and Renee Rodriguez; Mount Tabor’s Aliah Sabbagh Rabaiotti and Jenna Catania; and Reagan’s Isabella Vargas made girls all-conference.

The Reynolds girls wrestling team had seven wrestlers make all-conference in Makenzie Hutchins, Jordan Cooper, Natasha DeJesus, Sally Alcantara, Jalin Perla, Ge’Lani Smith, and Arviel Douthit.
