The Shallow Ford Foundation has announced the appointment of Dr. Todd Martin as its new community engagement officer. Martin, who joined the foundation in April 2024 to lead the development of the Yadkin County Education Foundation Fund, has demonstrated a commitment to educational advancement and community collaboration.
In his expanded role, Martin will support additional funds and initiatives across the foundation, furthering its mission to build stronger community connections and enhance opportunities for local residents.
“We are excited to have Martin take on this new role,” Emmy Corn, president and CEO of the Shallow Ford Foundation, is quoted as saying in a release from the foundation. “His expertise in community connection will be invaluable as we continue to grow our programs and impact.”
Martin holds a doctorate in education in educational leadership from Gardner-Webb University, a master of arts in educational administration from Appalachian State University, and a bachelor of science in education social sciences from Western Carolina University. He is an experienced educational leader with over three decades of experience in North Carolina’s public-school districts. He served as superintendent of Yadkin County Schools from 2013 until his retirement in 2024. Before becoming superintendent, he was a teacher, coach, principal and assistant superintendent in Stokes County Schools.
During his tenure, Martin championed several initiatives to expand student opportunities, including the Shore Scholars program, the Surry-Yadkin Works program offering paid internships to high school students and the Yadkin County Career Development and Training Center in Yadkinville. Additionally, motivated by he and his wife Genie’s passion for supporting foster and adopted youth, he brought the Seeds of Hope summer camp to the county offering a free week-long camp experience for these young people. In his final year as superintendent, he partnered with the Shallow Ford Foundation to create the Yadkin County Education Foundation, which he continues to support in retirement. Martin and his wife Genie have been married for over 30 years and have five children, four grandchildren and an Australian Shepherd named Zeke, who often joined Martin on winter road checks for school closures.
