Filling for local elections closed on Friday, and Clemmons and Lewisville each have seats up for election. This year’s election for the Lewisville Town Council will have a wrinkle, however, as five out of seven incumbents decided not to run for reelection.

Filing opened Monday, July 7 and ran through Friday, July 18.

This will be the first year that local Forsyth County elections will be run on a partisan basis, a change that local officials protested and stated was done without their input.

In Clemmons, the mayoral seat and three seats on the Village Council are up for election.

Incumbent Mayor Mike Rogers, a Republican, will be uncontested in his reelection bid, being the only candidate to file as either a Republican or Democrat.

For the Village Council, there are four candidates for three seats.

On the Republican side, incumbents Randy Wooden and Mary Cameron filed for reelection as well as challenger Jim Smith.

For Democrats, incumbent Council Member Michelle Barson filed for reelection.

Neither of the parties will require a primary election, however, as there are three or less candidates for each.

In Lewisville, two candidates will be vying for an empty mayoral seat, as longtime Lewisville Mayor Mike Horn is not running for reelection.

Democrat Billy Carter filed for election and will run against Republican Kevin Sharp.

Lewisville also has a full house for the Town Council race, as four Democrats and six Republicans filed for the five seats available.

Incumbent Tom Lawson, a Republican, was one of only two incumbents to file for reelection, and challengers Brady Allen, Tripp Gallup, Stacy Howard, AC Hengler and Fred Franklin each filed for the Republican primary.

The Democratic side will not require a primary, as four challengers, Mack Wilder, James Lewis, Geraldine Gallagher and Suzanne Newsome, each filed for election to the council.

Unaffiliated incumbent Monte Long filed for reelection as well. However, as he is an unaffiliated candidate he will only be on the November ballot.

Incumbents Melissa Hunt, Ivan Huffman, Kenneth Sadler and Jane Welch each decided not to file for reelection, leaving four seats up for grabs this year.
