Spending your childhood riding bikes to a neighbor’s house, going to the pool and having siblings to entertain you when your friends weren’t home was typical for Hollan Young.

“Both of my parents are from this area, and having a close-knit family was all that I knew,” said Young. “I was lucky to have friends close by that we could run from house to house to hang out.”

During her elementary and middle school years, Young attended Summit School and then St. Mary’s High School High School. For college, she decided to spread her wings and headed off to the University of Mississippi for college.

After graduating from college, Young wanted to come back to North Carolina and was excited when an opportunity presented itself in Charlotte.

“I began working for a residential mortgage firm. My dad had been a broker and residential developer, so I had been exposed to that industry all of my life which intrigued me,” said Young.

During that time, Young also met her future husband, Glenn.

“At that time, he worked for the bank, and being young professionals, we met through mutual friends. We were lucky that we also got to live in Raleigh for a while because of his job. I liked both Charlotte and Raleigh for different reasons. And it was a nice time for us to be newlyweds and take advantage of what both cities had to offer,” said Young.

After living in bigger cities for 10 years, Hollan and Glenn decided to head back to the Winston-Salem area.

“We had expanded our family with our twin sons, Glenn and Mack. I had also changed careers and went into a different side of the real estate world and became a Realtor right before COVID-19 hit. I knew that I wanted to have a job that would allow me to have flexibility with my hours and schedule. Showing homes on the weekends and after hours appealed to me,” said Young.

Now working with Berkshire Hathaway Homeservices through Hollan Young Real Estate, she is most excited because, “they provide such a wonderful platform to serve my clients. They allow me to work hand in hand with clients who become friends throughout the process. I am so fortunate to be a part of the home buying process with my clients because it’s still the ultimate American dream. When you hand over the keys to a new home, the excitement that comes along with that never gets old,” said Young.

In between showing houses, and helping her clients find the perfect home, Young likes to stay active.

“I enjoy taking long walks with my dog and friends, bike riding, playing golf and tennis if there is enough time in my schedule,” said Young.

“Of course, with having 11-year-old identical twins, and also a 5-year-old daughter, Jane, we are always busy,” said Young. “Having twin boys has been the most fun experience to bear witness to. We dove into parenthood and haven’t looked back. It’s chaotic and entertaining, but we wouldn’t change a thing. Our daughter rules the roost, that’s for sure.”

Much like Young’s childhood, her children have an open-door policy with family, neighbors and friends.

“Our open-door policy means we have kids coming and going all the time which, I love. I hope to provide an environment for my kids to always want to come home to. That’s how I always felt when I was growing up,” said Young.

Another aspect that Young is sharing with her own children is her faith.

“We are a Christian family and attend Centenary United Methodist Church. We try to put God first in all that we do and trust in His work,” said Young.

Sharing her values with her own children is something that Young delights that her parents also get to see.

“My husband also grew up with a very close-knit family. We have both sets of parents living within several blocks, so they get to see their grandchildren often. That was a big reason why we moved back home when we started having our own children. And if we want a little adventure, we hit the road to visit my siblings in Raleigh or Charlotte,” said Young. “That’s the great thing about having kids, they are always up for an adventure.”
