YMCA announces Let’s Get Fit Fun Day
The YMCA of Northwest North Carolina has announced the annual Let’s Get Fit Fun Day at the Jerry Long Family YMCA in Clemmons.
The event will welcome 190 registered participants for a day filled with inclusive health and recreational activities. There will also be 140 aides from various day programs. This event celebrates individuals of all abilities, providing a fun, welcoming environment that promotes wellness and community engagement.
Attendees of the annual event represent a wide range of local IDD (Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities) day programs, including Monarch, Enrichment Center, Lindley Habilitation, His Path, New Horizons and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.
Lunch is provided for all attendees before they get to participate in games and wellness activities for every ability level. Some activities include a lively dance party to get everyone moving and celebrating and photo booths for participants to capture fun memories with friends and staff
The event is free for all participants, thanks to support from the YMCA’s Annual Impact Fund. This funding ensures that cost is never a barrier to participation in healthy, inclusive programming.
“Let’s Get Fit Fun Day reflects the YMCA’s mission to build a stronger, more inclusive community that promotes physical health, connection and belonging for people of all abilities. At the Y, we believe in everyone’s ability to reach their God-given potential in spirit, mind and body,” wrote the organization in a press release.
“Let’s Get Fit” is a specialized fitness initiative tailored for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Jerry Long Family YMCA hosts their version of the program every Wednesday from noon to 12:45 p.m. in Studio 1, according to its website.
