CLEMMONS — The Village of Clemmons Planning Department will be hosting a transportation summit on Thursday, aiming to share information on the village’s vision of the future of transportation.

The event will allow Clemmons area residents to speak with village officials and hear about the plans for upcoming projects that will impact daily commutes, neighborhood streets and community safety. Plans that will be discussed include the Safe Streets for All, the Comprehensive Transportation Plans and updates to local development codes.

Safe Streets for All is a program that is the result of funding received in 2023 from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program, which aims to reduce traffic-related deaths. The plan aims to identify high-risk areas and areas that historically have high-injury rates and propose low-cost, high-impact solutions to improve them.

Transportation has been a recent focus of the village, with walk audits being hosted in certain “problem” areas in order for planners to receive on-the-ground feedback from people who live in the area in recent weeks. Both the audits and the summit are the result of efforts from the village to work with people in the area in engaging ways.

Planning Director Doug Moore stated in February that he “realized the survey method is not working very well. And no one wants to hear an hour or hour and half presentation. So we’re trying to do something where we actually engage people.”

The event will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Clemmons Branch Library, 6365 James St. The planning department will lead the summit, with tables and information also available from:

  • Winston-Salem Transportation Planning Organization
  • NC Vision Zero – UNC Injury Prevention Research Center
