Idols Road shut down by car crash into home, subsequent gas leak

CLEMMONS — Idols Road was shut down for multiple hours on Tuesday after a vehicle crashed into a home, causing a gas leak, severely damaging the home and causing serious injuries to the driver.

On Tuesday at 12:35 PM, the Clemmons Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with rescue in the 6900 block Idols Road in the Village of Clemmons, according to a release from Forsyth County. The first units on scene arrived at 12:40 PM to find a single vehicle crash with a vehicle inside of a residential structure, with a subject entrapped within the vehicle and an active gas leak in the immediate vicinity of the vehicle and structure.

One patient was extricated from the vehicle and transported by Forsyth County Emergency Services to Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with serious injuries, according to the release. The home sustained significant damage.

Approximately 50 firefighters were needed to bring the incident under control due to its complicated nature. The Clemmons Fire Department was assisted by units from A-RC-H Fire and Rescue (Davidson County), Winston-Salem Fire Department, Lewisville Fire Department, Forsyth County Emergency Services-Fire and EMS Divisions, and the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
