The Titans are closing out the first month of fourth quarter with many events and activities to look forward to, making the journey to the end of the school year feel a little more doable. The end of March brings along much anticipation for the happenings at the very beginning of April, and campus is buzzing with excitement.

Arguably the most important night of the year for some Titans, prom is the current talk of the town. The anticipated event will be held on April 5 at the Millennium Event Center in downtown Winston-Salem from 7-11 p.m. This year’s theme for the dance is “A Starry Night,” so students may expect to see a significant amount of blue dresses or celestial-themed decorations in the event center to match the theme.

The Titans can hardly wait to attend what many feel is the pinnacle of their high school experience, and they will be sure to line up when ticket sales begin on March 27, carrying through March 28, March 31 and April 3. Tickets are going for $55, cash only, and may only be purchased if students have no outstanding fees such as cafeteria or media center balances. Those who plan to bring guests that do not attend West must fill out a guest form which is needed in order to purchase a ticket for said guest. It goes without saying that prom is a big deal for many students, but this year’s upperclassmen are showing more excitement than ever.

Around the same time, the drama department will be putting on the creepy and kooky spring musical, “The Addams Family.” The musical follows the story of Wednesday Addams and her iconic yet mysterious family as she navigates having a newfound love interest. The show’s opening night will be on April 3 at 7 p.m., followed by a showing at the same time on the next night, April 4. There will be no show on Saturday due to prom, but it will pick back up on Sunday, April 6, for a matinee performance at 3 p.m. This show is naturally unique due to its eerie characters, music and set decor, but it will also consist of things that West has yet to see in its previous drama performances.

The show will include guest appearances from a handful of teachers and staff who will be participating in dance numbers, so the Titans should keep their eyes peeled to spot their educators under the spotlight. All tickets are going for $10 at the door, intended to support the drama department with the materials needed for their sets, costumes and other items for future productions.

On a less exciting note, the juniors are ending the month with their taking of the ACT on March 26. Standardized testing such as the SAT and ACT are now interesting topics of discussion, as many colleges allow students to apply “test-optional,” meaning that they do not have to submit their scores in their application. While students still have the ability to submit their scores if they wish, many choose not to if their results do not meet the average score at the school they are applying to.

Regardless of college requirements, the students who signed up will take the exam during the school day, being excused from their regularly scheduled classes. For the three other grades not taking the ACT, the schedule will be changed. First period will be extended until 1:30 p.m, later skipping the second period, but both third and fourth will be an hour long. Students plan to bring activities and homework to keep them busy during the long first period as they wish the juniors good luck on their exam.

The Titans are keeping busy as always, filling the end of March with much to look forward to. April is the last full month of the school year, and a significant month for those excited for prom or those on the stage for the drama production. Students are sure to support their fellow Titans in every way they can, and will absolutely show up for both events with all of their school spirit.
