March has finally hit the calendar, and that means Forsyth Creek Week is back for a fun-filled nine days from March 22 to March 30. Forsyth Creek Week, which is now entering its 13th year, is an annual chance to celebrate our local waterways through fun and informative activities.

Clemmons will kick off the event with the Clemmons Creek Week Cleanup, where groups that are interested in working together to clean up creeks or streams in their neighborhoods over the weekend of Saturday, March 22, and Sunday, March 23, can pre-register. For anyone who does not live near a stream, Clemmons will assign them a road to clean up.

Individuals or groups can pre-register online at https://www.clemmons.org/494/Clemmons-Creek-Cleanup or with the Clemmons Stormwater Department at 336-766-9170. Requests should be submitted by no later than 12 p.m. on Thursday, March 20.

Operation Medicine Drop will be on Monday, March 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fire Station 14 on James Street, with cooperation from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and Inmar Intelligence. Over the years, this event has helped responsibly remove over 2,000 pounds of unused and expired medications. Bring unused or expired medication for proper and safe disposal. The event is for households only.

Clemmons stormwater is also partnering with Kernersville, Lewisville and Winston-Salem to distribute free shoreline garden vegetation kits for stream banks on Thursday, March 27, and Friday, March 28. Kits will be available for pickup in either Clemmons, Lewisville, Kernersville or Winston-Salem. Each participant will receive a kit with a variety of plugs of vegetation and instructions on how to plant them along stream banks. Anyone interested can sign up for a kit through the Forsyth Creek Week’s website or on the Village of Clemmons webpage. Limited supply will be available at all locations.

The town of Lewisville will also be offering several events throughout the week including a “Stream Watch” event on Saturday, March 29, from 10 a.m. to noon, during which families and community groups enjoy time outside and learn about the amazing system of creeks and streams.

From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Lewisville and the Yadkin Riverkeeper will host a paddle on the Lewisville section of the Yadkin River. The event will float from 421 River Park to the Shallowford Road bridge. Keep an eye on the Creek Week website for more details.

Forsyth Creek Week has support from local municipalities, organizations and several local sponsors. North State Environmental is the presenting sponsor. For other events throughout Forsyth County, the full calendar of events and sponsor list can be found at www.forsythcreekweek.org.

With over 150 events listed on the calendar, there is something for everyone. There is a bass fishing tournament, documentary series and movies, nature walks, lunch and learns, cleanups, jamboree and library programs just to name a few. Join the community in celebrating the waterways that help make the community thrive.
