For months, the Clemmons village council has staged a meeting-before-the-meeting, an hour-long session devoted to topics as wide-ranging as thoughts about a Pooper Scooper Law to tree ordinances.
Monday, the board voted without dissent to end the sessions.
The pre-meetings had become about as long as the regular sessions. The past two regular meetings have lasted slightly longer than an hour.
“Do we need to continue these 6 p.m. meetings?” council member Mary Cameron asked at the end of Monday’s session.
“I think it has been productive,” mayor pro tem Robert Marshall said. He presided over the meeting in the absence of Mayor John Bost. The early sessions started after the November election to cover items of interest to the new council members.
Council member Al Harbury said the early sessions kept the the regular meeting from being crowded.
Cameron said the regular meetings have been short, and any remaining topics from the early sessions could be discussed in the regular meeting.
Members Chris Jones and Larry McClellan joined Cameron in voting to end the early session. Harbury did not vote. Marshall could not vote because he was presiding.
The council meetings will now begin at 7 p.m.
