Forum considers future of Clemmons

A group of local residents share thoughts and ideas during a round table discussion at the Clemmons public forum last week.

“Bicycle paths, greenways, sidewalks, a town center.”
Those were just a few of the suggestions posted on the graffiti board at the Village of Clemmons Comprehensive Plan Kick-Off Public Forum last Thursday night.
And while the authors of those comments came in various shapes, sizes and ages, their pen names were all the same — anonymous.
That was part of the purpose of the town meeting held at River Oaks Church — to freely and openly share ideas about the future of Clemmons.
Roughly 150 local citizens participated in the first of several gatherings scheduled to take place over the next 12 months. The mission of the meetings is to gain a more clear and concise picture of what Clemmons citizens ultimately want for the future of their village.
“I was impressed and encouraged by the turnout, especially on such a cold night,” said Ed Brewer, a Clemmons native and former town mayor. “We usually get just a handful of people that come out for town meetings. This is a great idea that should benefit the area.”
