“Hard work and clean living.”
Want to live to be 100 years old? Follow the aforementioned formula of John Leslie Dickerson and you just might get there. After all, it has worked beautifully for him.
Dickerson, a resident of the Elms at Tanglewood in Clemmons, proved as much on February 6th when he celebrated birthday number 100 with family and friends. Spry and engaging with a full head of closely-cropped white hair, he has the appearance of a man 20 years younger. And his emphasis on enjoying the simple things in life came through loud and clear when asked what he hoped to receive for hitting the century mark. “I’m not looking for any presents. I don’t really need anything. That would be foolishness.”
But he did enjoy the experience of reaching a milestone that most never have the opportunity to enjoy. Displaying sartorial splendor in a three-piece pin-striped suit, Dickerson posed for pictures and recounted a lifetime that has seen many changes.
