On Saturday, February 7, 2009, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Polly Joyce Owen went to be with her Lord and the love of her life for 57 years, Carl Owen, Sr. Born March 17, 1921 to the late Frank and Emma Lawson Joyce, she had been a resident of Carmel Hills Retirement Community in Charlotte for the past 5 years. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church of Lewisville. Surviving are son, Carl “Bud” Jr. (Billie); daughters, Carole (“Jim” Bill) Persiani and Susan (Roy “Buddy”) Cook; grandchildren, Scott Owen, Amy Tilson, Lauri Cox, Baxter Cook, Carlee Cook, Zach Cook and Jake Cook; great-grandchildren, Chris Owen, Nick Owen, Caleb Cox, Matt Tilson, Brett Cox, and Emily Cox; and many nieces and nephews. Polly was also preceded in death by eight sisters; and one brother. Funeral Services will be conducted by her son, the Rev. Bud Owen at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Visitation one hour prior to the service at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Forsyth Memorial Park. Rodney Gerard Boyce Mr. Rodney Gerard Boyce was taken home to be with our Heavenly Father in his sleep the morning of February 4, 2009. He attended West Forsyth High School and was a member of Revelations of Faith Church. Rodney was a loving father, husband, brother and son. He is survived by his wife, Lysa and son, Isaac Boyce; father, Melvin Bankhead, Sr.; sisters: Melvinia and Cynthia McMillan and Lee-Lee Johnson; brothers: Demond, Ervin and Marcus Boyce, Elbert “Woody” McMillian, Jr., Melvin, Dwayne and Joseph Bankhead and Robert; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mothers, Daphnette V. Boyce and Maxine H. Williams and a brother, James Boyce. Funeral Services were held Monday, February 9, 2009 at Mt. Sinai AME Zion Church, 482 Peoples Creek Road, Advance, NC, 27006. Interment followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a trust account has been established for his son, Isaac Boyce. Kenneth Eugene Smith Mr. Kenneth Eugene Smith, 65, of Clemmons, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born September 26, 1943 in Iredell County to Clarence Moses and Annie Cope Smith. Mr. Smith was a faithful member of Center Grove Baptist Church and the Co Workers Sunday School class. In his spare time, he loved to play golf. He will be remembered as a man who truly loved his Lord and his church. He is survived by his wife, Dorene Dalton Smith; a son, Brian Smith of Charlotte; a sister, Elizabeth Ann Hutchens; and a brother, C. M. Smith, both of Yadkinville. A Funeral Service was held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Center Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Harris officiating. Burial followed at Forsyth Memorial Park. Delilah Norton Vogler Mrs. Delilah Norton Vogler, age 81, died Wednesday, February 4, 2009. Delilah was born February 1, 1928 to Wesley Legette and Ethel Brigman Norton. She was a member of Friedland Moravian Church where she served as Sunday school teacher, on the Board of Christian Education, nursery worker, diener and a member of the Women’ s Fellowship. She was employed as Assistant to the President of Oak Ridge Military Academy for eighteen years and retired from Vogler and Sons Funeral Home. In 1999, she was named Woman of the Year for the American Businesswomen’ s Association (ABWA). She held several official positions in the ABWA and proudly achieved 25 years of perfect attendance. Delilah was an avid fan of basketball and the Atlanta Braves. In 1944, she graduated from Sedge Garden School and continued to remain close to these classmates. Her name was Delilah, but she truly had the strength of a Sampson. She was married to James Wesley Vogler, Sr. on August 9, 1946. In addition to her husband of 63 years, she is survived by a daughter, Judy Vogler Weavil and a son, James (Jimmy) Wesley Vogler, Jr.; two grandsons and their wives, Christoper and Rachel Weavil of Winston-Salem and Matthew and Kristen Weavil, also of Winston-Salem; two great-grandchildren, Jonah and Robyn Weavil; a brother, W. L. (Dub) Norton; numerous nieces and nephews; and a wonderful, loving circle of friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 7, at Friedland Moravian Church, with the Rev. Walter Yarbrough and the Rev. Carol Foltz officiating. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the care and love shown to them by the staff of The Oaks at Forsyth. Donna Leigh Williams Miss Donna Leigh Williams, 51, a loving and kind-hearted daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2009 at her residence in the presence of her family after a short and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on July 1, 1957 in Forsyth County to James D. Williams and Shirley Flynn Williams. She was a 1975 graduate of West Forsyth High School. From high school, she worked for Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Moses Cone Hospital and at Sam’ s Club at the time she was diagnosed with cancer. She enjoyed knitting, fishing, and yard sales, but her greatest joy in life were her pets. She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley F. Williams; and her grandparents. Survivors to cherish her memories are: her father, Mr. Don Williams of Clemmons; brother, Jim Williams (Keri) of Lexington; nephew, Benjamin C. Williams and niece, Kaci M. Luke Olin Austin Beloved son, brother and friend, Luke Olin Austin of Clemmons, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, February 2, 2009. He was born September 1, 1988. He was a graduate of West Forsyth High School. He attended UNC Charlotte. He loved his family, friends and Rockband. He loved and was loved! He is survived by his parents, Dr. William E. and Mrs. Julie Jahn Austin; his sisters, Julie Lynn Austin, Amanda Hummel and husband, Andy Hummel, and Anna Givens and husband, Nathan Givens; his beloved Krista, Samantha, Sharon, Paul LoRusso: cousin of the home, Summer Lynn Jahn; special friends, April Lucas and Stacie Cates; Aunts and Uncles, Lane and Peggy Austin, Rudy and Betty Austin and Aunt Yolanda Miller; his favorite and cherished Aunt Vera Lee Austin; Mike Jahn; and numerous cousins. Dale Gordon Cox Dale Gordon Cox, 81 of Davidson County, died Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center after a brief illness. A Funeral Service will be conducted Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Faith Missionary Alliance Church with the Rev. Michael Gates and the Rev. Albert Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. Mr. Cox was born on October 13, 1927 to Sidney and Pearl Forrey Cox in Garden City, MN. He served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army. He graduated from Mankato State Teachers College and from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Western Electric and retired from AT&T. He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Mona Faye Cox; daughters: Karen Lawrence and husband, Charlie of Winston-Salem, and Anne Cox Rinier and husband, Guy of Stuart, FL; stepdaughter, Angela Jones and husband, Stan Petsuck; stepson, Andre Bass, all of Winston-Salem; and nine grandchildren. A sister, Darline Ward and husband, Ted; a brother, Lloyd Cox, all of Mankato, MN also survive him. Jeffrey “Scott” Graham Mr. Jeffrey “Scott” Graham, 45, passed away on February 1, 2009 at his residence. He was born May 1, 1963 in Ankara, Turkey to William W. and Larua Le Graham. Scott was a member of Clemmons United Methodist Church and was owner of J.S. Graham Construction Company, Inc. He was an avid golfer and coached his sons little league teams. Scott was a passionate fan of Wake Forest sports and Dale Earnhardt and he had a fondness for the 10th hole at Tanglewood Championship Course and traveling. He truly loved life to the fullest. Scott is survived by his son, Justin Lee Graham of Winston-Salem; a stepson, Jason Cortright of New Jersey; his mother Larua Le Modlinski and husband Jules of Winston-Salem; his father, William W. Graham and wife Peggy of Florida; two sisters, Lisa Marie Graham and Dawn Renee Wick and husband Joe both of Winston-Salem; a half sister, Joyce Shahboz and husband Marc of Florida; nieces and nephew`, Heather Leigh Graham, David Michael Graham, Lain Shahboz, and Gwen Shahboz. Joseph John Wantuch We celebrate the life of Joseph John Wantuch, 76, who passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2009, in Winston-Salem, NC. Joe was born March 23, 1932, the youngest of six children born in Buffalo, New York to Joseph and Josephine Jazwinski Wantuch. Joe was a loving husband, father and grandfather with a generous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He lived most of his life in western New York in the town of Barker. He worked for 35 years for GM at Harrison Radiator as a tool and die maker. Joe served brave as a Marine during the Korean War. He loved the sport of baseball and played competitive as a pitcher to the age of 61. Joe was an avid life long New York Yankee fan. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Jane Glanowski Wantuch, and his three children: son, David Wantuch and wife, Judy of Advance, NC; daughter, Annette and husband, Stephen Corwin of Easton, PA and daughter, Nancy Wright of Mocksville, NC. Joe is also survived by one brother, Michael Wantuch of Cheektowaga, NY and five grand-children: Briana, Janine, Thomas, Christopher and Ethan, who dearly loved their grandfather. The Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, February 11, at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons, NC.
