Edward Michael Tkach, 77, of Clemmons, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at his home. He was born September 27, 1931 in Monmoth County, NJ to Michael Victoria Kocumbas Tkach . Mr. Tkach was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after 21 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Anne Chaffin Tkach and a daughter, Valerie Harris. He is survived by six children, Debbie Lowdermilk and husband Gray of Mocksville, Edward M. Tkach, Jr. of Buffalo, NY, Albert G. Tkach and wife Donna of Advance, Frankie A. Starnes and husband James of High Rock, David A. Tkach and wife Paula and Cliff B. Tkach and wife Renae, all of Mocksville; eleven grandchildren, Will, Ben and Kelly Lowdermilk, Heather Vestal, Sterling Tkach, Brandy Shore, Kaylee and Ashlee Trivette, Jesse and Emmie Tkach and Adam Ridenhour; two great grandchildren, Aiyden and Karlynn Vestal and a special friend, David D’ Amico. The family will have a private graveside service at a later date. Rodger Lee Vanderford Rodger Lee Vanderford of Clemmons, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2009. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Kepley Reeves; and his stepfather, Lawrence Reeves of Salisbury, NC. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jennifer Baskin Vanderford of Clemmons; two sons, Michael D. Vanderford and wife, Virginia of Charlotte, and Jonathan W. Vanderford of Lewisville; a brother, Chuck Reeves and wife, R.J. of Columbus; and three sisters, Donna L. Reeves of Charlotte, Carol R. Young and husband, Robert of Rockwell, and Linda R. Davis of Salisbury. Rodger loved his God, his family, his friends, and his church. He has touched the lives of many people and left this world a better place and wishes you to do the same. A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Vanderford was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, at Clemmons Moravian Church, 3560 Spangenberg Avenue, Clemmons, NC 27012. Interment followed in the Church graveyard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Home Care Foundation, 322 N. Center St., Statesville, NC 28677. John E. Weidner John E. Weidner, 48, of Clemmons, formerly of Macon, GA and Clarksville, IN died Saturday, April 18, 2009. John was born in Jeffersonville, IN on May 23, 1960 to George Raymond, Sr. and Mary Ann Hunter Weidner. He was a 1978 graduate of Clarksville High School in Clarksville, IN and worked as an electrician with Angler Electric and Service Inc. in Winston-Salem, NC. Mr. Weidner is survived by his wife Glenna Weakley Weidner, a son Zachary Weidner, both of Clemmons; his parents; a brother George Weidner, Jr.; a sister Barbara Richmond all of Clarksville, IN and many nieces and nephews of Southern Indiana. A service to celebrate his life was conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 24, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. A memorial service will be conducted in Clarksville, IN at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’ s choice in memory of John. Paul Dean “PD” Williams Paul Dean “PD” Williams, 85, died Monday, April 20, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Williams was born in Paducah, KY on February 23, 1924 to David Russell and Stella Dean Williams. He served in the U. S. Navy for eleven years during World War II and the Korean War. He retired from Western Electric Company with 36 years of service and taught Machine Shop at Forsyth Technical Community College for many years. A very active member of First Baptist Church, he was a Life Deacon, a R.A. Leader and Chief Usher. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Charlotte Hauser Williams, two brothers and a sister. Surviving are his daughter, Janet Williams of Winston-Salem; his son, Dean Williams and wife, Sue, of Myrtle Beach, SC; and his three grandchildren: Kevin Williams and wife, Megan, of Raleigh, Karen Vary and husband, Matt, of Richmond, VA and Katie Putnam and husband, John Mark, of Atlanta, GA. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 23, at Salem Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Arnett Harris and Rev. June Foss officiating. Burial followed in Union Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Clemmons. Cecelia Marie (Cormier) Boivin Cecelia Marie (Cormier) Boivin, 96, of Clemmons Village II, passed away April 20, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born December 31, 1912 in Lansboro, MA, to the late William B. and Charlotte Keeler Sherman. She was married to the late Henry A. Cormier of Somers, CT for 22 years and the late Charles Boivin for 15 years. She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. She had five children and was preceded in death by her daughter, Judith Ann in 1968 and Jacqueline Marie in 2008 both of Somers, CT. She is survived by three sons, Bruce E. Cormier of Winston-Salem, Brian T. Cormier of Mocksville, and Gary Cormier of Ft. Meyers, FL. She is also survived by daughters-in-law, Marcia Cormier of NC and Jeanette and Frankie Byerly of NC and Glenna Cormier of FL and a son-in-law, John Larabee of CT; six grandchildren; Kimberly ( Darren) Crotts of Advance, Nicole (Brian) Crotts of Mocksville, Jennifer (Dave) Couture of Broadbrook, CT, Jonathan (Annette) Larabee of S. Glastonbury, CT, James (Joleen) Larabee of Storrs, CT, and Melissa Cormier of Ft. Meyers, FL; and twelve great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, April 25 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 321 Redlands Rd., Advance. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Sina Myers Cleary Mrs. Sina Myers Cleary, 88, of Clemmons passed away Monday, April 20, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born December 18, 1920 in Wilkes County to Julius Sylvester and Nancy Theldocia Vannoy Myers. Mrs. Cleary was a member of Hay Meadow Baptist Church in Wilkes County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roby Cleary; three sisters, Mary Myers Wyatt, Naomi Myers Blevins and Oleva Myers Jennings and four brothers, Johnny, Clarence, Marshall and Oliver Myers. Surviving are five children, Shirley Pegram and husband Kenneth, Roby Cleary, Jr. and wife Anne, Hilda Priddy and husband Steve, Jerry Cleary and wife Cynthia and Melissa Beck and husband Ronald; six granddaughters; one grandson; five great grandsons; three great granddaughters and two great great grandsons. A funeral service was held last Thursday, at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with Rev. Julius Blevins officiating. Burial followed at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. David Lorick Powell, Jr. David Lorick Powell, Jr., 51, passed away April 17, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family and friends following a courageous 2 year battle with cancer. He was born December 19, 1957 in Greenville, SC to Betty Adams Powell and the late David Lorick Powell. Survivors include his mother; grandmother, Lillie Adams of Spartanburg, SC; his sons, Zachary and Clayton Powell of Walnut Cove; sister, Debbie (David) Ivester; brothers, Doug (Trisha) Powell, all of Lewisville, and Don Powell of Garden City, SC; beloved niece who lovingly cared for him in his final weeks, Lynne Ivester (aka Nurse Hatchett); nieces and nephews, Megan, Laura, Ben, and J.D. Services were held at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with his spiritual advisor, the Rev. Miller Allen officiating. Louise Moser Reynolds Mrs. Louise Moser Reynolds, 98, wife of the late Glenn Galloway Reynolds, of Lewisville died on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Vienna Village. Mrs. Reynolds was born in Forsyth County, daughter of the late Sidney Thomas and Carrie Mock Moser, and had lived here all her life. She was a member of the Lewisville United Methodist Church, where she had served as pianist, organist, choir director, Sunday School teacher, and secretary. She held many offices in the women’s organizations of the church. She was organist at Winston-Salem Friends Meeting for eleven years. She attended Davenport College in Lenoir and Salem College. She was a music teacher and taught piano lessons at Lewisville School and organ and piano lessons at her home until retirement. She was active in community affairs, had been a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Volunteer Firemen’s Auxiliary, the Homemakers’ Extension, a volunteer for the Red Cross, and a charter member of the Lewisville Historical Society. For many years, she played the piano at a Sing-a-Long at Vienna Village and was the accompanist for the Joy Bells Choral Group. Mrs. Reynolds loved and enjoyed her family and many friends. She also loved music, especially classical music, traveling, and the game of bridge. She loved North Carolina and Lewisville, often saying she lived in the best place on earth. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a beloved niece, Joanie Lee Moser, in 1972; a brother, Sidney Thomas Moser, Jr., in 1994; a sister, Dorothy Holder, in 2000; a brother, Richard Moser, in 2002; a brother, Glenn Moser, in 2004; a sister, Pauline Longest, in 2005; a niece, Rachel Reich, in 2006; and a sister-in-law, Clara Moser, in 2007. Surviving are a daughter, Susan Dahlen and her husband, Dennis of Albany, Oregon; a grandson, Eric Reynolds Dahlen, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; sisters-in-law, Wanda Moser and Stella “Chickie” Moser of Winston-Salem, and Ruth Hartle and Patsy Reynolds of Lewisville; and a number of nieces and nephews and their families. A Memorial Service for Mrs. Reynolds was held. on Wednesday, April 29, at Lewisville United Methodist Church with Rev. Keith Bingham officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, or to Lewisville United Methodist Church. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Vienna Village for the wonderful loving care of Mrs. Reynolds for the past few years. |
